Youth Volleyball: Pre-Game Prayer

Wordless Wednesday

Pre-game Prayer

The Main Point

I wish all sporting events started with a prayer. Sadly, pre-game prayers are being banned in secular / public settings.

The terms "Prayer in Sports" or "Sports Prayers" searched on Google and other search portals consistently drives traffic to my site from all over the world.

  1. Very sad that God is being removed from so many public places to placate a few ANGRY people!

  2. AS a football and softball coach, my husband always had a student lead the team in the Lord's prayer before the game and then pray for the team after the game. He's done this for 28 years, most of those in a public school....never got in trouble! Amazing. My daughter was the Pray-er for her bb team in her senior year of h.s. Really was an encouragement to her teammates.

  3. Is it still OK if it's a Muslim prayer rather than a Christian one? I oppose prayer at school functions not because I'm angry, but simply because it marginalizes anyone who doesn't believe that way. Besides, if you're Christian, Jesus admonished you to pray in secret.

    1. Ski Bike Junkie - I personally think that a Godless society is a doomed society. Regardless of religion, everyone should have a voice to God instead of everyone being silent.

I would not be offended if a Muslim or a Jew recited a prayer before a youth football game. I would assume that Christians would listen quietly and respectfully. And would hope that Muslims and Jews would do the same in return. Atheists can put their Ipods earbuds in or go the restroom. Of course on one should have to hear a hate mongering diatribe whether is be from a Christian like Jeremiah Wright saying "Not God Bless America, God Damn America" or a Muslim Imam calling for a Jihad.

Similar situation. Baseball is a purely American Game, but it is played in Canada too. Before a Toronto Blue Jays game the USA national anthem is played. Then the canadian anthem is played or vice versa. I am not offended by the Canadian anthem. I listen quietly and respectfully.

Been a Christian all my life and I have never been told to pray in secret. Jesus and admonish do not seem to go together.
